Choppers – WEST COAST CHOPPERS - El Diablo

The chopper, like a bobber is a custom built motorcycle. Unnecessary components are removed from the bike and parts are assembled according to the biker’s own specifications. The front end is raked until the angle of the fork to the ground allows for an increased wheelbase. Handlebars are also raised. Another particular characteristic of choppers are smaller front tires and a fat rear tire. To make the chopper lighter, battery is sometimes removed and magneto is used in place of it. The headlight becomes considerably smaller, as well as the gas tank. The gas tank can also be hand hammered. Anything that makes it bulky is removed .Choppers are unique bikes that are tailored according to the biker’s style. Choppers require unimaginable hours of hand craftsmanship.

The popularity of choppers started by builders who were backyard mechanics gave way to the influx of chopper designers who become celebrities themselves like Jesse James. The El Diablo bike is one of the first bikes built by James. It combines the voluptuous lines of classic lines of West Coast choppers.
